Beloved family and friends,
Hope you are all doing well. We are currently in Atlanta, and Matt's PhD is finally at a foreseeable end :) He'll graduate in May 2019. For the last couple years, we've been trying to start a family, but discovered that, without extensive medical assistance, it would probably not be possible. When we moved to Atlanta, we started working with an agency to foster, in the hopes to adopt. However, it was not God's plan.
In June 2016, we finally switched to an adoption agency. A church friend had encouraged us to try the agency for a while. A few weeks ago, our home study was completed and our life book (a book that introduces us with pictures and text) is about to be shown to the expectant moms at the agency. Right now, it has become a waiting game. Once a mom chooses us by looking at our life book, we will be officially at the "placement" stage. Before the baby's due date, we will have to hand in our adoption fee. We will be able to pick up the baby at the hospital and after 10 days (if the mom is alright with terminating her rights), we'll be able to officially adopt.
We are currently in the process of raising funds for the adoption fees. The fee is approximately $30,000 (social workers' time/gas, lawyer/judge fees and birth mom/hospital fees/more attorney fees). We have been diligent in saving our own money and applying for grants. By the time the money is needed, we will have around $10,000 of our own money
set aside, and hopefully $20,000 in grants and donations.
Money is a hard thing to ask for. However, please consider donating. If giving financially is not possible, we totally understand and ask for your prayers instead! Please pray for the birth mom: that the Lord would comfort and make himself known to her. You can also pray for the Lord to take care of her baby. For Matt and I, pray for wisdom and understanding as we enter into this new/bittersweet/exciting stage. Lastly, please pray for God's will to be done and for Him to be honored.
