Hi! I'm Milo Royal based out of Austin, TX and I'm a trans guy trying to raise money for my friends and myself to get emergency name and gender marker changes.
Donald Trump has been elected president. It feels weird to type it out, let alone say it. It is apparent that his administation will be anti-transgender through and through and his administartion will likely overturn any and all rights transgender people have gained over the past few years. One of those rights is having the ability to change your name and gender markers and our time is running out to do that. Not having an ID that reflects one's identity can be a large safety risk for trans people. According to the National Center for Transgender Equality, gender incongruent identification exposes people to a range of negative outcomes, from denial of employment, housing, and public benefits to harassment and physical violence.
The main problem is that legal changes cost money. Name changes in Texas run around 230$ (if you don't qualify for an affadavit of indigency) and 11$ for each certified copy. New drivers license 25$. Amended birth certificate 15$ and 22$ for each certified copy (in Texas). I personally will have to figure out how to get mine amended in Alaska. Not to mention costs accumulated from doctor and therapy visits in order to obtain documents in support of a gender marker change. For me, that would cost me around 80$ each if I were to go to my HRT (hormone replacement therapy) physician. So, the costs accumulate quickly and for a lot of us, it's between barely scraping by or not getting the documents that are so necessary right now.
It would mean so much to me to get as many people as possible through this process before Trump is president on January 20th for everyone's safety. Time is of the essence to get this done so if you have some spare money to donate, it would mean so much to a lot of very important people!
