My name is Linda and at the age of 61 this is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Never in my life did I expect to be on the verge of becoming homeless.
Hard times can hit unexpectedly. The sudden death of my father followed by many years of taking care of my mother who suffered from diabeties and breast cancer has made for some very stressful situations. I held a good paying job at that time and was able to maintain the household and meet Mom's needs. Shortly after her passing however, the position I held was outsourced and the department dissolved leaving me without a job.
State unemployment benefits became the only means of income for as long as they would last while I struggled to locate a new position doing just about anything. My background is accounts receivable and customer service and I didn't think it would be long before I was back to a steady full-time job but I was wrong. Too many people seeking work and not enough companies hiring never seemed not to allow for an "older" worker to even gain an interview much less get placed. What funds I did have needed to go to paying bills and that depleated quickly as time went on.
I finally found work as a school cafeteria server five years ago but the salary even after this amount of time hardly leaves me with enough to cover bills and I have been in a constant struggle financially. I have taken on a second position as an aide for a school aftercare program but things are still not very improved. All the funds I would had retired on are gone and the situation is becoming desparate. I need help as soon as it can come!
The funds I am hoping to raise are to pay for back taxes on my home. The town where I live is seeking to have my house and property put on a tax sale. I need to raise funds to pay these taxes and have no other means to seek aid. Without this help I will have no place to live.
