Please meet my friend Bryndis Tobin. I have known her all my life – since we were both six months old, when I renamed her Tise, because I could not pronounce her actual name, Bryndis! Since our lives in New York City we have been in each other’s lives in one way or another, ebbing and flowing, for over 50years now.
A little over four years ago, Tise and her fiancé Joe, moved to a beautiful new home in rural Northern California. Shortly after their move, her fiancé was diagnosed with stage four bladder cancer. Tise lovingly took on the role of caretaker and did not leave his side until the day he died, 11 months later.
It took some time, but Tise adjusted to living alone. She started to meet new people, embracing the new community that she barely had a chance to engage with. Looking for work, she volunteered her time, read great books, played music, and reconnected with friends and family. Then the worldwide pandemic hit, turning her expanding world a lot smaller again.
Still, the forces of nature know no bounds, and the late summer fires started burning all around her home. I subsequently received a call from her on September 8th saying she was being evacuated from her home due to the continued threat of fire. When she asked if she could stay with me up in Sacramento area until the evacuation order was lifted, I naturally said absolutely, yes! It was about a week later that we learned that her home had been completely burnt to the ground.
When Tise fled to my home she did so only with what little would fit in her two seater car. With her strong belief that she would return to her home, where she had to leave behind her books, art, mementos, clothes, and furniture - now she has little to nothing left, and does not even know where she will land.
Loss is tough, and the loss of everything is even tougher. I know Tise will land on her feet again, but she really could use your help getting there. Your donation will give her the resources to get the bare basics of everyday living such as kitchenware, linens, clothing, and even personal care items. Those who know Tise will surely know that her pride would stop her from asking for help. This campaign has been created by me with the help of a few other good friends who all want to lend support in this time of loss.
