Help the Roe family

As many of you know, Monday September 10, Randy Roe was admitted to Baptist hospital in Jackson, MS for anaphylactic shock secondary to a wasp sting. At the time of the accident he was unconscious and without oxygen for 45-60 minutes. On Tuesday, September 11, they began extensive testing to evaluate the damage caused by the loss of oxygen. During Tuesday and Wednesday he underwent a MRI and two EEGs, as well as multiple physical exams by an Internist, Pulmonologist, Nephrologist, and Neurologist. He has issues with his kidneys, respirations, and titrating off of the ventilator. During the time, the nurse was sure to me that my dad looked good to be his age. I am sure any man would love to hear that. Our family met at the hospital, my sister and I drove to and from Arkansas, and many friends wondering what the outcome of Randy's condition would be.

On Thursday, September 13, the doctors met with our family with the results. The Doctor informed us that the results of the testing wasn't good. The MRI showed a stroke at the brain stem and the EEG wasn't good. Basically, there was no brain activity as far as purposeful movements. No emotions, no thoughts, no movements, or anything. From the brain stem down everything was good, but from the brain stem up everything was non existent. So, Randy would be in a vegetative state of mind. The family was then faced with the decision to withdraw the ventilator and let God be in control, or let him stay in a vegetative state forever. Randy's family all came together, talked and prayed about the situation. If anyone knew Randy they would say he wouldn’t want to live like this. We hope no one is ever faced with a discision like this. Through God we found peace with our decision, but it still doesn’t make it easy. We know it’s the right decision and what he would want.

On Sunday, our family met at the hospital at 9:00am to remove Randy from the ventilator. We have stayed by his side and prayed for God's Will to be done.

What some of you may not know is that he has no medical insurance, life insurance or burial insurance.

One thing that families shouldn't have to worry about during a time like this is money. He was always willing to help anyone. He was a hard working man and would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone in need. So, I am asking for his friends and community to please step forward and help during such a tragic time. I know he would be beyond appreciative, and our family sure would be as well. Please continue to pray for  our family during this difficult time.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
