Please meet the Otten family. Their 7 year old son, Henry has many difficult health issues. Henry's primary diagnosis is Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. This causes him to have severe allergic reactions to a plethora of different triggers, including temperature, activity, food and environment. He has several other diagnoses, including a Ketone Utilization Disorder and EoE, as well that affect his immune system, digestive tract, sleep patterns and blood flow. Henry’s body cannot cope if temperatures are over 65 degrees or using any sort of energy for more than 15 minutes. He is often on IV therapy at home and receives feedings through a G-tube. Henry’s mom is his fulltime caregiver and spends every day monitoring his food, medications, and activity levels to help keep him stable. Henry’s dad works very hard at his job, and little sister, Ellie is Henry’s biggest cheerleader.
The Otten’s are incredibly dedicated to Henry and his health. Their sincere joy and faith in God sustain them and spur them on. At the same time, the financial burden of his needs are overwhelming. The bills keep coming with MD visits, travel to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma, copays for treatments and prescriptions. They have had to make alterations to their home and other parts of their lifestyle to make Henry comfortable, and in the process incurred loan payments to do so. His family has had to visit hospitals in Seattle, Tacoma, Boston, and, just last month, Denver, CO to get answers. They are making progress, but the journey is far from over, and medical costs are a constant, and mounting. They are so happy to do this and give Henry the best health possible. Any financial gift helps to ease the burden they carry.
Current Financial Needs:
-paying $10,000 in lab bills that’s not covered by insurance
-paying monthly medication expenses and experimenting with new meds/supplements
-trying to find food that Henry’s body can tolerate
-finding ways for Henry to calm his body and focus on an activity so he doesn’t spiral downward and need to go on IV
-making payments on home alterations/specific needs done for Henry’s health
