Help the Cosby Family

David is 9 months old and has been in the ICU fighting for his life since June 8th. He had to have a breathing tube and PIC line placed because he was not able to breathe on his own. His oxygen level stats were in the low 80s and heart rate was in the 200s. He had pulmonary empyema pnemonia with a collapsed lung. It occurs n less than 1% of children with pnemonia.The infection in his lungs made the fluid very thick and impossible to aspirate with a needle. He had air pockets full of pus which included immune cells, dead cells and bacteria. The pus on the plueral space cannot be coughed out. He also had it in a area around his tiny lung. His doctors used medication to break it all down to try to get it out through the chest tube The surgical team would come in daily to revise it and see if he needed it to be surgically removed. The risk of that was breaking down the lung cells since the lung was nacrotic. So he then had a second chest tube placed by a radiologist who used ultrasound to thread in the in pocket which had the most fluid.Luckily they were able to get it draining and his recovery started. He will have scar tissue in his lung from the damage done through all this. But we are hopeful to have minimal lasting effects as he grows.
Through out all this, his parents have been out of work and by his side the whole time. I’m hoping to get enough donations to help with their financials and to relieve some medical expenses. We will update soon.
