Help the Askham family after Patrick’s transplant

Donation protected
Patrick was diagnosed with Gastroschisis while his mum was still pregnant. A scan showed he had loops of bowel sitting on the outside of his abdomen.
They decided to bring forward Michelle’s due date as they didn’t want to risk damaging any bowel, however when Patrick was born he actually looked like more like Omphalocele the bowel was covered in a sack and matted together, this changed the way the doctors had to treat Patrick.

Hospitals have an intravenous way of feeding children who can’t have milk it’s called TPN, this has been a huge part of Patrick’s way of life making sure he gets all the goodness his body needs.

In the last four years Patrick has undergone lots of surgery on his bowel and he’s also had a stoma too.
In 2017 it was decided that Patrick would benefit from a bowel transplant as he had now been left with such little bowel after more bowel had to be taken away

Patrick had to under go tests at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and this is where the transplant would take place, in April this year Patrick went live on the transplant list and on the 13th December (8 days after his 4th birthday)  he had his transplant. Now Patrick will spend up to three months at Birmingham hospital and it’s a long way from home and any support from friends and family would be so helpful to keep the family together at Christmas time.

It’s an expensive time living in hospital and having to pay for accommodation and family coming to visit.
It would help Patrick’s dad to take time off work to be with Paddy and also able to look after Patrick’s brother and sister, as hes used all his holidays for hospital visits throughout the year. Not to mention the general costs of running a house and day to day bills.

Patrick also has his own facebiok page, feel free to follow his journey from there
