I am leaving for Haiti in January 2017!
January 12, 2010 - A devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake crippled the impoverished country of Haiti. 3 million people were impacted. More than 300,000 lives perished. Many homes, schools, places of worship and other vital community structures have been either repaired or rebuilt. However there is much more work to be done. According to the 2016 International Organization of Migration (IOM), over 55,000 women, men and children remain displaced. They occupy more than 31 shelter locations. On October 4, 2016, Hurricane Matthew struck the southern shores of the island nation. 175,000 people were displaced into 307 shelter locations with over 1.2 million people in need and over 806,000 people in need of immediate food assistance. They need our help now more than ever.
The Heart of Hollywood Foundation (H.H.F.) is once again partnering together with Hollywood United Methodist Church to send a team of volunteers to Port-au-Prince, Haiti from January 13 – January 21, 2017. This will be our 8th year working in Haiti. I will be volunteering my time and talent to continue helping our Haitian friends rebuild their communities. However, I must also raise at least $3,300 to pay my way and this is where I could use your help.

Our trip cost, including airfare, housing, food and site building materials for the week is approximately $3,300 per volunteer, $16,150 for a team of five. We will be utilizing $7,500 for building materials and to employ local Haitian laborers. Our fundraising dollars will also employ Haitian interpreters, drivers and guest house staff/cooks, meaning a portion of our fundraising will have a direct impact on the Haitian economy! 100% of your donation will be managed by our team. We do not take anything out for administrative costs. Your money goes where it is intended and will allow us to continue to make a positive change in Haiti.
This will be my first year traveling with this mission team, and I've been hoping to go for many years. I really want to make my first year a success, and to do the most I can for the people in Sobier, the community we will visit.
