Help Single Mother in Grad School

Our dear friend, Melinda, is a brilliant scholar who is in need of our help! She is attempting to do her field research for her PhD in Anthropology in NYC. But due to discriminatory policies, laws, and social practices, she has had a hard time finding housing for her and her young daughter.

She is a single mother who has overcome so many struggles in her life. Despite these struggles, she continues to do amazing work in decolonizing academia (both in her research and what she gives back to communities). She works hard on her research, publications, and speaking for those of us who exist in the margins.

After months of searching and being rejected from potential roommates due to being a single mother, she was able to find a place. However, this place is a very toxic environment for her and her daughter. It is causing many health problems.

Therefore, I am asking for donations to help cover her moving expenses, her security deposit, her share of first month’s rent, and some of her medical bills.

We are asking for $4,600. Please donate and help this amazing woman (and her daughter) gain access to a safer and healthier home.
