Support the project and donate to help get Crossing Over:Immigration Stories to my exhibition at the 2019 Venice Biennale. I need all the support I can get!

It's not easy asking for help, especially in a time of such polarizing times. I am an artist working with immigrants, decedents of immigrants, and asylum seekers with an opportunity to share the artwork created based on their stories of immigration. It's an amazing opportunity, and I'd like to see it lead to more opportunities. More opportunities to record more stories, create more artworks, and share throughout the U.S. and the world.

This particular opportunity will cost $17,000 out of pocket. I have raised $4500 through residencies and exhibition participation. I am looking to raise just $7000 through this GoFundMe to help further the exhibition along the way.

Please participate if you can. Please share if you have friends who might be able to participate as well.

AND as mentioned you are all invited to the opening in Venice May 9 and 10!

Thank you to those who have already donated!
It is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Thank you!

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Immigration Stories: IT and Crossing Over Mexico-US: An Immigration Oral History is a social documentary using the alternative photographic process banner cyanotypes and audio interviews to create storytelling oral histories of immigration from Mexico to the U.S. and other asylum seeking stories. This project now has the opportunity to travel the world to be shown during the 2019 Venice Biennale at Palazzo Mora for the world to see! Please help make this possible!

All people are important. All stories are meaningful. When you listen, you learn. When you learn, you see. You can see a deeper humanity, a deeper thread, a common ground.

This fundraiser will benefit all those who gave their time to share their stories of immigration and asylum seeking. The funds raised here will go directly to fund the costs associated with the exhibition of the banner portraits and audio interviews of over 35 people who share their story of immigration.

Each of these stories and banner will be seen and heard by thousands of visitors attending the 2019 Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy! Expenses have been accumulating and are quickly becoming overwhelming, yet are needed to see that this project reaches so many people across the world.

Past artists to exhibit with the European Cultural Centre at Palazzo Mora in Venice have been amongst many blue chips artists like, Jeff Koons, Nancy Burson, Yoko Ono, and more. This is an opportunity for each of these stories to be shown and heard at this critically important venue.

Your support, no matter how small, matters exponentially to the project. Your donation will go towards the costs for insurance, transport, and installation of the show in Venice. It will also support the creation of additional oral histories and cyanotype banner of asylum seekers living in transition in Europe.

Thank you so much for taking the time to consider supporting this project! I am so grateful for your support. I promise to pay it forward.

Some notes from the field, a big hug, and thanks to all of you!
Hello all, I wanted to share an update of the progress in Italy to show you what you have contributed towards. It's a dubious thing to contribute towards someone's artistic vision, but here are tangible results to see. It was in the outskirts of Milan that I met Reem and Rawan, to daughters of Arabic immigrants to Italy. Both Reem and Rawan were born and go to school in Italy, but are refused Italian citizenship. This is similar to my my grandmother's story having been born to Italian immigrants and born in the United States, she was not naturalized a US citizen until later in her life. I am interested in the modern day necessity of Immigration when we cross borders in the virtual world every day. But it was mind blowing (as expected) to work with and interview people fleeing to the very country my family felt they had to leave.

Thank you for participating in this project! You're donation is crucial to its success and its exhibition at Palazzo Mora at the 2019 La Biennale di Venezia. I met with the curators last week and looked over the galleries this work will be displayed in.

A bit of an update is that the opening receptions at Palazzo Mora are open to all on May 9 and May 10 in the evenings. I will be there, and would love to see you there too! Mark it on your calendar.

Until the next time...

Warmly,
Jackie

It's been nonstop working since arriving in Milan. I am happy to report with the help of some incredible Idealists, Jorida and Yavette, I was able to connect with immigrants and asylum seekers in both North and South Italy. The first nine cyanotypes and interviews have been completed and there are a few more to come in my remaining days here.
I wanted to send you all some initial photos, and a link to the first uploaded interview.
Thank you for your support, and please share however seems most appropriate!
Lots of love from Italia,
Jackie

In just one week I will be flying to Milan to meet with a fellow idealist to interview immigrants living in Milan, and then puddle jump to far Southern Italy to meet with another Idealist to work with asylum seekers living and waiting in Calabria. The interviews and cyanotype portraits made during these visits will be part of the body of work on view in Venice, and integrated with the larger body of work I have been creating on Immigration. This simply would not make it to Venice without your generous contributions! Thank you again.

Please spread the word and stay tuned for updates from the field!

Sincerely,
Jackie
