I am a local historian and curator of the website downriverthings.com, reaching out in the hopes of being able to continue the mission I began in 2013, which is to be able to continue utilizing the site to present the viewing public our history since the area was first settled in the early 1700s.
Included in the website, which was lauded as a 2018 Hometown Hero Award winner by the Discover Downriver publication, are over 90 pages of information, stories, and visual materials that have been contributed by numerous sources. Also included is an extensive photo library with over 2,600 individual images detailing the visual history of the southern Detroit area we know as Downriver.
In my sixth year of research, I have unfortunately found that this year I will not be able to fund the sites. I am therefore reaching out to the general public in an effort to help fund efforts to keep the website going and to keep the research continuing.
I am hoping for donations totaling between $70 and $200. The photo library can be renewed in April for $24.95. The website has three options: a one-year, two- year, or five-year plan. One year would constitute a renewal fee of $39.95, 2 years would constitute $67.90, and 5 years would realize a payment of $149.75. The least amount I would spend would be $63.90, while the deluxe package would total $174.70. Payments would need to be applied to both no later than April 5th, 2019.
Any small additional amounts would be going toward future research, photocopying, library time as well as possible future website upgrades.
The website is viewed over 1000 times a week, and the photo library has received over 6.3 million hits since its 2013 launch. It would be my hope, along with your support, that can keep this vital Downriver endeavor going.
