Pro Bono Immigration Attorneys

Donation protected
Please consider donating to send a group of pro bono immigration attorneys to one of the most remote immigration detention centers in the country, the Stewart Detention Facility in Lumpkin, Georgia.  Only 6 percent of immigrants detained at Stewart have legal counsel, compared to the national rate of 14 percent.
For one week in August,  we will represent adult men, many of whom were separated from their wives and children upon entering the United States.

The 1,752-bed Stewart Detention Center is owned and run by private prison company Core Civic, formerly known as Corrections Corporation of America.  It is known for its substandard conditions, http://www.businessinsider.com/immigrant-detention-centers-condition-2017-5
and it has recently been in the news due to a suicide last month: http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/16/us/ice-stewart-detention-center-death/index.html

The adjoining immigration court has the highest deportation rate in the country.   Last year, less than 2 percent of the men at Stewart won their cases.

With the help of legal service teams on the ground in Stewart, the Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative ("SIFI"), attorneys can have an enormous impact on the outcomes of these cases. https://www.facingsouth.org/2017/03/deportations-escalate-lawyers-ramp-defense-immigrants-rural-georgia

Four experienced AILA NorCal immigration attorneys will leave work and family  to volunteer a week of their time with SIFI, including:  Sarah Gavigan, Tala Hartsough, Jacqueline Brown Scott and Marie Vincent.

Help spread the word to support them and SIFI!
