Help Our Family Move to Portland!

Donation protected
Hello! My wife and I are attempting to raise some funds for our upcoming move to Portland on the 17th of May (10 days). We have received some wonderful help from friends and family members during this time, but we have been unable to make it all add up. I know this is being made with very short notice, but I hope that we can raise some money in the meantime.

All of the money donated will only be used for necessary expenses. We have paid the deposit, but we will need to pay $713 on or before the 17th in order to move in once we arrive in Portland. I am using my last paycheck to pay for our travel expenses, but we'll be spending every last penny of it on our moving trailer and gas.

The Situation

My wife and I came to Houston under extenuating circumstances. We ended up in a small, $1500 apartment with no money to our names after we both lost our prior employment. With nobody in the area to watch our daughter, Cosette had to stay home to take care of her and ready her for starting school this August. We spent over a month without employment, suffering the consequences of the overpopulation in Houston causing jobs to be limited, and the minimum wage in Houston being only $7.25 an hour. Finally, I was able to find decent employment in my career field, but the hours and pay are very limited. Despite having plans to settle down here and rent a house, we had to think about what would benefit us long-term. This is why we decided to make the move to Portland.

Portland

Being a married lesbian couple with a child, living in a conservative area puts a lot of strain on our family. Our move to Portland will serve us emotionally and financially. It is hard for us to leave the house without receiving negative attention. Marcie deserves to start school and settle down somewhere where her family is accepted and she can focus on her happiness and her education. We've already found and put a deposit down on an apartment that will give her more room, provides my wife and myself with a shared office, and is within walking distance to Marcie's new school. Portland's minimum wage is over $10, and all of the jobs that I qualify for are over $15, if not salaried for a lot more. We know that once we get to Portland and are settled in, we will no longer be struggling financially. We also have family members in Oregon and on the West Coast, but none we know in Texas, so we are very isolated. We want to change that.

The Cost

After my paychecks and some help from Cosette's family (all of which went toward our current rent, food, and bills if not this), we have managed to cover our deposit and most of our moving expenses. We chose the smallest trailer that we could, and will have to downsize a lot, but that alone costs about $300, and we will spend another $300 in gas. The trip is over 2200 miles, and will take us three days. Our moving expenses add up to about $850 when we add two nights in a hotel, food, and other necessities. My last paycheck will cover most of this(about $600). However, we've had to pay this month's rent already, and we will have to pay prorated rent before the 17th, which is $713. Anything that we can put towards that would be beneficial.

Thank you for listening to us. We can't wait to start our new life in Portland and we will be very grateful to anyone who helps make that possible. I made the goal $1000 to start, but anything will help, from $100 to $2000 dollars. Thank you again for your time.
