Help Me Help My Brother Help Orphans in Africa

Hey gang, I’m Scott Zirkel and I’d like to go to Africa. While that might seem pretty self-serving, there’s a good reason: My brother, Brad is setting up a non-profit to help orphans and I’d like to go help him out by shooting photos and video, creating the basis for marketing for an expanded phase of the non-profit, and to keep him company on the 11-day trip.

Brad is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy and has worked with orphanages in Central America, Asia, and Africa. His work empowers locals by implementing a self-sustainable standard of care to provide basic ongoing therapy techniques to children with disabilities. His goal is to put this in place in countries around the world. This trip, we’ll be heading to Rwanda, and possibly Uganda.

His non-profit, True North Outreach, is just getting up and going, so the footage we’ll capture and stories we’ll bring back will help to seed that outreach.

The money will go to cover my traveling expenses, audio/video equipment, and other gear. Our trip is in September and we’ve already purchased the tickets. He bought his first, and I had to rob Peter to pay Paul as it were, so part of this money will reimburse that purchase. I had to act when I did to ensure we had the same flights. 

Any money I am fortunate enough to raise beyond my goal will be donated to True North Outreach. Through True North’s early work in this trip, we’re building connections and teaching skills that will help entire communities for years to come.
