Help me continue my Advocacy & Civic Engagement

Donation protected
For the last twenty years, I have been an activist, a community organizer and for the last seven years an independent Government Affairs Consultant.  Over this time I have been in many battles from Firehouse closings after 9-11 to rezoning battles that have caused gentrification, displacement and the loss of many local small businesses all over New York.

I am involved in legal referrals & consulting advocacy for tenants who face illegal evictions from unscrupulous landlords and the fight to pass The Small Business Jobs Survival Act.

I have been involved in Legal battles with my longtime friend and Mentor Norman Siegel, civil rights and civil liberties lawyer and former director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, New York's leading civil rights organization.

I have also been a long time advocate for Animal Rights. I have fought for a  no-kill shelter system & the ban of pets from pet stores that procure them from puppy mills.

The reason I am starting this funding campaign is after my Mother passed away three years ago a longtime fellow activist took me to pick up her remains.

We were driving back and she told me how proud she was of me for my work helping other and she knew that I always had trouble accepting money in return for my services. I mainly deal with low and moderate income tenants and communities so she offered to become my sponsor.

With the funding, she provided I was able to do my work free of charge and I was also able to co-author a book  Zoned Out! Race, Displacement, and City Planning in New York City with my longtime friend Tom Angotti and Sylvia Morse, Peter Marcuse and Samuel Stein.

This book became a powerful teaching tool for us to use in Zoning Battles all over the City and all the royalties generated from the book we decided to reinvest in the communities we were serving.

It has allowed me to help so many individuals and communities all over New York and it has been a true blessing.

But in March of this year, my sponsor ran into serious financial difficulties when a family member became ill. He has been unable to work and she is supporting him and her two Grandchildren. She is no longer able to sponsor me and not able to provide the back pay I have been taking out of my savings.

I am very grateful to her for the last three years of her help and guidance and she continues to be one of my closest friends and I will always do what I can to help her and her family.

As an Independent Consultant, I have never accepted any political or real estate funding. It becomes impossible to be truly independent when you are beholden to politicians or lobbyist.

I am asking for your help to allow me to continue doing the work I love and keep a roof over my head and food on the table for my family. The loss of my back income has put me in a difficult spot. So I need your help.

No donation is too large or small and any words of encouragement are as appreciated as your donation. I have many battles to continue to fight and with your help, I can continue to be a helper.

If you are not familiar with my consulting work this interview will help you get to know me.
