Help Gwyneth to volunteer in Vanuatu

Is the access to education a privilege ?

In 2015, Vanuatu was hit by Tropical Cyclone Pam, one of the worst natural disasters in the history of Vanuatu. The Primary School in Ranwas Village was completely destroyed in the cyclone. As a result, classes are now held in an old UNICEF tent. Since the cyclone, the community has been able to construct a building to teach within but the village are still in desperate need of additional classroom and library spaces. As the weather in Vanuatu is erratic, and with high humidity levels, books become moist and rot very quickly. Our aim is to design a space which can overcome this issue, preserving the books through a sustainable and low maintenance solution. Thus, create a better environment for the future generation in Vanuatu to receive education.

My name is Gwyneth, I am an architecture student who enjoy helping and working with people. Ever since I came to UK, I have met different people from around the world and started to wonder about things that are happening in different parts of the world. I realised the needs of people in less developed countries, especially how important education is to the young generation. I always wanted to have a chance to meet people who are in need around the world and try my very best to help them, and by joining the Ranwas school project, my vision was turned into reality! I am so glad to be a part of the four-week project with other volunteers and local community members this summer. We will be constructing a new library and classroom space for the children of Ranwas Village. Taking part in the project not only allows me to utilise my knowledge and strength to help those in need, but also provides a precious opportunity for me to meet less fortunate people who I am not likely to come in contact with in my daily life. And therefore, get to understand their needs by experiencing it myself.

As it is a self-funded project, I would appreciate your help to raise money for the cost of the programme (£1495) and the cost of the flight (approx. £1000). Any additional donations will enable extra features and building facilities to be built! Please also share this with your families and friends!

There are people who are suffering all over the world every day.  Seeing that most of us live comfortable lives, why not share what we have with those who are less fortunate?

Thank you !

Gwyneth :)

More about the organization:

CAUKIN Studio is a collective of young architectural designers working on a variety of design and construction projects worldwide. The team began working together in 2015 when the very first project, Playscape, was completed in Cambodia. CAUKIN’s working practice seeks to tackle social, environmental and economic problems through beautiful, well-crafted design. By seeking collaboration and the active involvement of local communities we hope to make an impact on everyday lives and the architectural community as a whole.

We will also be working with The Tanbok Project (TTP) , a charity established in 2015, whose aim is to provide funding for the provision of community facilities. As well as this, TTP carry out in-depth research into the many villages in Vanuatu to help identify need in these areas.
