Help Carol Wood to Make Music Again

Donation protected
My dear friend, Carol Wood, is a harpist and composer who gives her community countless hours of her time and talent, composing and performing. She has played in dozens of benefits and unpaid performances, and has served selflessly on the board of Main Street Arts in Saxtons River. Her orchestral, choral, art song, and solo harp pieces, in addition to her kind and generous nature, have brought magic and beauty to many of our lives.

Now it is Carol's turn to receive.

Her Celtic harp has developed a large crack that makes it impossible for her to commit to any performances, and makes it difficult for her to compose. At this point in her life, as a retiree and caregiver for her husband, John, who has Alzheimer's, the cost of shipping the harp to/from the manufacturer and to pay for the repair is prohibitive.Carol's music is her lifeline and an integral part of her identity. It is what feeds her soul when most of her energy day and night is spent caring for others. In her own words:

"When I think of what gives my life meaning, fulfillment and happiness, playing and composing music come second only to the importance of my beautiful family in my life. But harpists and other musicians will understand that these words don’t really convey very well how important my Dusty Strings harp is to me—the harp that I play and perform on probably 97% of the time, and that I often compose at.

So it was a pretty horrible blow hearing that the crack in the soundboard means sending the harp back to Seattle for unstringing and rebuilding. However, the technicians at Dusty Strings tell me that, once fixed, my harp will be “slightly better than new.” And my old friend Sam Milligan, one of the finest harp technicians in the business, assures me that having the harp repaired at the Dusty Strings factory is by far the best (probably the only) way to have it done."

The bottom line is this: Carol is in need of $3,000. Can you help her?

Thank you, friends.
