In Memory of Rudy Albert

Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 9:09 PM. Rudy Albert passed away and left behind his wife Krystal, and four beautiful children. He left his loving parents Rudy and Sandy Albert, two sisters and a brother, and many other family members.

Rudy took his own life. It is a mystery to us all why he felt this was his only option. There were no signs. None of us had any idea he was suffering as badly as he was. How horrible it must have felt for Rudy to live with such pain that he felt it would be better to be gone than to be here today, tomorrow, next week, next year.

His children will not fully understand until they are older, and the two little ones, Tate, age 5, and Charlotte, only 10 months old, will probably never remember their Daddy, if only as distant memories.

Rudy was clearly suffering. He suffered in silence, and kept an enormous amount of pain hidden from his siblings, his parents, his kids, his friends and co-workers, and even his wife.

People do not like to talk about mental illness. It's an uncomfortable topic. When someone hears the word "depression", oftentimes the response is, "it will pass", or "it's not that bad, what do you have to be depressed about?"

In all honesty, it is an illness. It's insidious, relentless, and can make your darkest hours seem like an eternity of never ending hell.   It's not an illness you can see, though, and so there is a terribly negative stigma associated with it.  There are also non-believers, who feel that if you  "just try harder" you'll be happy. If only it were that simple.  If only Rudy could have reached out to someone and asked for help. If only...  We will never fully understand what Rudy's final thoughts were, or why. WHY.

Rudy's wife Krystal is now a young widow with four children, and will face enormous hardships. Not just financially, but emotionally. She is now faced with answering un-answerable questions, like "when is Daddy coming home?"  She is now faced with the decision of moving back to Maine from Florida, because she cannot bear the thought of ever, ever, setting foot in what was once a happy home filled with love and life.

Without income or a home, without a husband, and saddled with being a single Mom, Krystal is now faced with starting over.
We can offer her emotional support, an ear, a shoulder to cry on. We can offer her help with packing up their belongings, and getting her resettled near her family in Maine.  We can tell her we love her, and we are here for her.

What we need help with is getting Krystal and her children back on their feet, with some semblance of financial security and comfort, so she has one less thing to worry about- the stability and future of her children.
Please consider helping Krystal, Brayden, Shyannah, Teyton, and Charlotte as they begin this long and difficult journey of healing.
