Heartworm Positive Dogs Need Help!

Donation protected
This past summer, Angel Ridge Animal Rescue received three transfer dogs from a shelter in South Carolina. Their names are Frankie, Georgie, and Lucas. All three are wonderful dogs, but unfortunately came to us heartworm positive.

(Georgie)

They are currently being treated by our veterinarian and have had two injections, one month apart. Each round of injections cost us $1,000. Two weeks ago they had their second injection.

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.

In about three weeks, the three dogs will be tested to see if they are still HW positive. If they are positive, they will have to undergo more injections. The injections contain immiticide and extreme care must be taken after the injection to ensure that the dogs do not develop potentially fatal blood clots.

All three dogs are currently living in wonderful homes, but Angel Ridge is still responsible for their medical costs. The new families are working closely with us and we hope that you can help, as well, to give these dogs the best care that they can receive.
