Herb Nordmeyer: Help Haiti Build

Donation protected
This site is for my friend Herb.  He keeps trying to retire but God has other plans.  He worked for years as an expert with stucco and cement, then as a consultant and expert witness within the building trades.  In 2013, he was invited to go on a mission trip to Haiti to help rebuild after the 2010 earthquake.  The church his team visited is an industrious place--they use profits from a church-owned hotel and stone quarry to fund the orphanage they run.  When the pastor, Pastor Benoit, learned of Herb's expertise with stone and cement, he invited Herb to move to Haiti to help develop the stone quarry and help rebuild Haiti.

Herb decided moving to Haiti was not feasible, but has now visited multiple times over the past 2 years.  He has evaluated existing wood and cement structures, often crumbling badly from environmental stressors and poor construction.  He has developed optimal cement recipes for the local conditions and modified existing plans for disaster-proof homes originally developed for use in Belize to the conditions in Haiti, and he has trained local construction workers.  Herb has overseen the translation of construction manuals into Creole, so that they can be published and distributed to help the people of Haiti build.   He has met with the mayor of Gonaives to receive his support with this project, and most recently, his team finally participated in the erection of multiple cement monolithic domes: disaster proof, solid homes suitable to house Haitian families.

It costs Herb several thousand dollars each time he makes a trip to Haiti.  He pays for these trips himself, or with local fundraising efforts.  This site is specifically to help cover his travel expenses.   All donations will go directly to Herb.

Please do read the information on GoFundMe; their fee structure will deduct a certain percentage from your donation, but there will be no after-donation charges, no charges in addition to what you donate.
