Hi everyone.
I suppose this has taking me a long while to leap into because in a funny way, you are bearing your soul but here it goes. This is our story......
My name is Tricia and I will be speaking on behalf of my little boy Harvey. We are a family of four. Me and my husband Marty, our ten year old Robbie and almost 3 year old Harvey Millar. Harvey has autism. At the min, he is non-verbal and I say ''at the min'' because my hope is that he will speak again.
We are fundraising for a service dog from a wonderful company called My Canine Companion Ireland. A super service that gives people with disabilities a dog to help them through everyday life. Things that we, (me included) take for granted. These dogs are amazing animals that do some wonderful things.
For example, for Harvey, our dog will allow us to go for a walk along a beach, in a park or even get to a shop without worry. Harvey is a flight risk, he knows no danger and has no spacial awareness which in turn means he will just bolt no matter whats coming either side of him. As time goes on this will only get harder for us to control as he will only get bigger and stronger, like all growing boys!!!! Our dog will be attached to him and will allow us to do the ordinary things that are somewhat difficult at the moment.
Service dogs also provide a calming affect on children in stressful situations and have been known to bring people out of their shell more and kids have called their dogs names after not speaking for years. I could talk all day but that's not why were here........
The training that goes into these animals is very expensive. It costs about 10 thousand euros to give a family a dog so that's where the fun starts. I have the chance to raise the money myself so I said ''why not''........ People are kind and my dreams for Harvey, hopefully, will touch a few people and we will give him the chance he so deserves in life.
We cannot explain how grateful we are in advance for whatever donation is made. It does not matter how small it is, it will make a difference. Even a euro will be one less euro to worry about!
Our little boy is the most kind loving and caring kid I've ever met. He is so strong and brave.
So on behalf of the Millar family, My Canine Companion and especially Harvey, I say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.......
