Harry's Heroic journey with AML

Harrison was born at 37 weeks and two days. I went in for a stress test because I wasn't feeling movement. I was going to be induced but Harry's heart rate was dipping after the contractions I was having on my own. I ended up having a c-section and Harry was not crying when they pulled him out. I immediately knew something was wrong. Harry had very low sugar levels and was taken back for more test. I got to give him one kiss before he was taken and I was moved to a recovery room. There the doctor came in and told me Harry was showing signs of Down syndrome and leukemia. He needed to be transferred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where they have a level ll NICU. There it was confirmed he had Down syndrome and TMD. Needless to say my husband and I were going through the grimmest time in our life then. I could handle Down syndrome, I wasn't sure my baby could handle leukemia. What was supposed to be a joyful time was turned upside down. Harry spent 20 days in the NICU and there received a blood transfusion with the hope that his white count would go down. Which it did but quickly came back up. 3 days later he received his first round of chemotherapy. It went well and Harry was able to come home. We had made it 1 and a half with a clean bill of health until Friday October 2. He had went in for a bone marrow biopsy and it was confirmed that his leukemia is back. And Sunday we were informed it is Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) Harry will being his first of 6, round of chemotherapy. Harry is the light and joy in our lives. He has two beautiful big sisters who just adore him to no end. And want their brother home and healthy. A mama and daddy who would go to the end of the world for their children.
