Hello, Friends and Family!

On June 28th, I will be leaving for a one-year mission trip to Ivory Coast, Africa. This will be my second time in Côte d’Ivoire. My first time, as some of you may remember, was two years ago for short term missions. This is when God first put in my heart a desire to serve on missions for a year. Now that I have graduated from Rutgers University, this mere thought of serving a year on missions became more of a reality. So after some time thinking and praying about the decision, here I am, committing a year to missions in Africa.

I will be serving in partnership with the Empowerment Center for Children & Youth (ECCY) and Abidjan International Ministries (AIM). Information about these organizations can be found below. During my year, I will be 1) teaching the local/native children English and having Bible study and 2) participating in and serving with the multiple short term missions teams that come from United States, Korea, and Paris.

I am extremely excited for this year, and hope that you can partner with me financially, spiritually, or both. I have to raise a total of $6,000 for this trip to be possible. This will cover my plane ticket ($2,000), vaccinations ($500), the visa application ($200), thanksgiving offering ($1,000), training materials ($100), monthly allowances ($1,500), and personal expenses ($500). You can also venmo, personally hand me cash or a check payable to Hannah Kang, or mail to: 471 Piermont Road, Cresskill NJ, 07626.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

1)   Serving heart. That I always have an eager heart to serve the Ivorians and the Korean church.

2)   Humility. That I serve in all humility, respecting the culture and customs of the Ivorians and the Korean Church members.

3)   Spiritual protection. That I fight through the enemy’s attacks through prayer and scripture, faithfully.

4)    Passion. That I have an unfailing passion for the missions field and seek to glorify God in everything.

AIM (Abidjan International Ministry) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by the Korean Abidjan Presbyterian Church (KAPC). It focuses on planting churches throughout Ivory Coast. More recently, AIM has extended its focus beyond church planting to building hospitals, schools, and children centers. AIM also partners with churches and missions teams from Korea, United States, and France to host medical and short-term missions trips throughout Ivory Coast.

ECCY (Empowerment Center for Children & Youth) is an NGO and one of AIM’s projects. Currently, there are three empowerment centers located in Anyama, Abobo, and Adiake. ECCY aims to support, encourage, and empower communities to take responsibility and ownership of their communities to bring about lasting change. They do so in these four ways:

1) Nutritionally: making sure that the children receive their basic nutritional needs and meals

2) Medically: providing medical support when needed and periodic medical check-ups

3) Educationally: providing enrichment programs to supplement what the children learn in school along with English Clubs and Computer Class

4) Socially/Emotionally: providing an environment where children learn, grow, and develop as students, individuals, and a community. This includes family visitations in which the homes of children are visited to learn more about their families and help in any way possible.
