Kris' Relief Trip in Tacloban, PH

My name is Kris Diocampo. I am American born, Canadian raised, Filipino made and Australian approved. I am studying my juris doctor of law in Australia at Bond University to become a lawyer and pursue my legal career.

I have always been passionate about volunteering and contributing back to my community and to causes overseas.

I have recently been selected by Humanitarian Affairs UK to work together with a relief team on February 1-9, 2015. We will be traveling to Tacloban, Philippines and assisting the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (started November 8, 2013)

Despite the media attention that has been given to this emergency, there is still much that is needed to help my fellow Filipinos. I am worried that with the new typhoon season happening in November-December of this year will impede rebuilding efforts for the people in the area.

Some of the duties that I may be undertaking including assisting with food distribution, rebuilding, providing children with basic classes (hygiene, sports, storytelling, etc.) and assisting with basic medical care and other duties delegated by the relief team leaders.

I am asking for everyone to help me in my mission to do what I can for the people in Tacloban.

As a law student in Australia, my finances are very limited from living expenses and accumulating debt. While this may be alleviated upon my graduation, it prevents me from financing my own humanitarian endeavors while I am studying abroad.

I have decided on a goal to raise $4000 to use towards the relief trip and to specifically support the grassroots organizations that are working locally to improve the situation.

My breakdown of my trip costs are as follows:

FLIGHT = $820.00

COSTS: training, food, operational fees, security, accommodation = $750.00

DONATION GOAL = $2,025.00

TOTAL = $4,000.00

There are a lot of international non-governmental organizations in the area as well. However, I am focusing specifically on the local charities that are more aware of the situation and whom I feel will best benefit from my fundraising efforts.

I am grateful for any support that anyone is willing to share. If you have a specific purpose for your donation (e.g. 100% towards donation or if you would like to contribute any towards my costs) please let me know. Any excess amounts I raise will go directly to the organizations I choose upon my arrival.
