Standing Rock Donations

Donation protected
Winter is coming and we are bringing supplies to the water defenders at Standing Rock.  We are drawn to this cause because of the intersectional issues that this movement arose.  The fight at Standing Rock represents indigenous rights, environmental justice, feminism, environmental racism, climate change, and the police state.

·        Indigenous Rights

At its heart #NoDAPL is about indigenous sovereignty -the rights of indigenous communities to determine what happens on their own land and to their own water.  The Dakota Access Pipeline will go through sacred burial grounds, and the Missouri River just north of the tribal boundaries.  The Missouri River provides water for drinking and for agriculture.

·        Environmental Racism

The city of Bismarck already rejected an earlier route for Dakota Access Pipeline because it threatened their water supply.  If a predominantly white community can say no, the Standing Rock Sioux should be able to as well.

·        Feminism

Indigenous women are on the frontlines of many major issues. Women and those who identity as female, risk arrest for cooking and caring for the water protectors. They are using their bodies to prevent pipeline crews from accessing the construction site; they have organized 24/7 security teams, and developed their own school and curriculum for the youth who are staying in the camps long-term.  Their proximity to oil-field camps make them targets of sexual assault and gender-related sexual violence.

·        Climate change

Dakota Access is a new version of the Keystone XL pipeline, largely following the same route as Keystone XL.

·        Police State.

Following the mass arrests involving water cannons, tear gas, concussion grenades, baton beatings, and strip searches, human rights groups are increasingly worried about the Police State.

Jessica and I will be paying for our own comfort and supplies.  What we are asking for is assistance in paying for fuel costs and for purchasing more necessary supplies for the water protectors.  Donations will go toward purchasing the following for the water defenders that are not already donated:

Sleeping bags
Blankets
Gas Cards
Tent Stoves
Stove Jacks
Wood
Food for the Water Protectors
