Be the Village My Brother Needs

After thinking long and hard about whether or not I wanted to put this story out there, I’ve decided to trust in what I’ve learned about the power of asking for help and leaning into vulnerability. I’ve created this page to help my younger brother, who has experienced a lot of trauma and loss since childhood, get back on his feet. Without going into too much detail, I have been my brother’s primary source of support for the last two years. I recently started a full-time job after putting myself through college and grad school as a first gen college student. I am happy to be able to provide him some support, but I am unable to meet all of his basic needs. I cannot do it alone, especially with my hefty student loan debt, and starting in a deficit myself. As the saying goes, "it takes a village to raise a child". My brother did not have that village, yet he is a very persistent, loving, charismatic, and hardworking individual. Knowing what it is like to live without a father, since he lost his father as an adolescent, he works tirelessly to do the best he can to provide for his two infant children. He’s been homeless for the last few years after losing his job and getting evicted, yet continues to persist and push against the world that has seemed to fail him over and over. I’d like to help my brother return to college and finish his bachelor’s degree, as well as find a stable place to live where he can spend quality time with his children in a safe and secure environment. This kind of financial support may instill some hope for his future and his children’s’ future.  I know from my own struggles, that had it not been for the many teachers, mentors, and friends who helped me along the way, I would not be where I am today. Please help me help my brother achieve success.
