On October 10th, 2019, I will be traveling to Guatemala to lend support to a team of Victoria doctors who will run clinics in remote villages. In addition to providing immediate medical care, the physicians will determine which patients need to be referred to the capital city of Antigua for surgical procedures.
Each team tries to bring a much needed piece of equipment with them - and to leave behind so it will be there for the next team. Our team would like to purchase a haemoglobin machine - this professional grade tool will replace a very old model that no longer functions reliably or even at all on many days. This is a crucial tool for doctors as it tells them what is happening in a patients blood. High readings, low readings, etc. all point doctors to important health issues in patients.
Friends, family, colleagues, please consider a donation to help us purchase this very important tool! I know that a little bit from all of us will result in the funds needed to buy the haemoglobin machine!
I want you all to know how much your support means to me personally. I am very excited about the trip. I am keen to help bring the sort of medical opportunity that you and I take for granted here in Canada to some of the world's poorest people. The benefit of simple medical procedures like hernia surgery, cleft lip & palette correction, and common gynaecological procedures is enormous. The barriers that these sorts of medical conditions present is heartbreaking. Many people are left ostracized, unable to work, unable to marry and have a family, and always cause significant financial hardship.
