Monthly Expenses for Travis

Donation protected
UPDATE: (April 8th 16') I've been asked to add some more details to this fund, because of how public it has become. I want to add as much detail and answer as many questions that people have been asking as honest and as well as I can.

My name is Amy Abel, Travis is my brother. We are both from Utah, but now live in the Idaho Falls area. I started this fund to help with Traivs and Amanda's monthly expenses for 2-3 months due to Travis being out of work from a gun shot wound at NO fault of his own.

On Saturday March 26th Travis was over helping a family move. While in the process of helping, non family members broke down a bed, and a gun was found between the matresses. It was then placed on the floor without any of the family members knowledge. A short time later, it was found by a 3 year old toddler. The bullet went through the floor, ricocheted off the metal part of the window sill, and through his left foot. He was rushed to E.I.R.M.C. in Idaho Falls. X-rays reviled that two bones in his foot were fractured and his pinky toe was shattered.

On April 5th Travis had his 2nd surgery. Everything so far has went well. The doctor took bone from his hip to replace the bone in his foot, but did not take enough so he still has a doner bone as well. We have been told by the doctor that as long as his body excepts the doner bone, they will do an x-ray at 6 weeks and as long as everything looks ok, he will be able to start putting pressure on it little by little, week by week. At that time we should know more on how long he will be out for sure, but have already been told it will at least be 8 weeks until Traivs is able to work again.

This accident has came at such a bad time for this family, obviously there will never be a good time to find out you have cancer or have been shot, but this family has just been through so much the last couple of months. Back in December after two biopsies and two surgeries we found out that Amanda has Thyroid cancer. Last Friday, exactly 6 days after this accident, she started her radiation treatment. She's had some amazing co-workers donate their time for the days off for radiation and they were making it work because Travis was still working. Now with him out of work they are unable to make ends meet on just her monthly wages.

It's amazing how fast giving just a little adds up! Thank you sooo very much from the bottom of our hearts for those that have already helped my brother, sister in law and 2 year old neice!!! We never thought we'd be the one asking for help!!!

We are very GREATFUL and THANKFUL!!! :)

Thing they need help with as of April 8th 16':
~Rent & power for months May & June
                     April has been paid for
(water, gas, garbage is included w/rent)
~Car/Truck insurance for months of May & June
~Some Food & Supplies for months May & June
(like Pull-ups, toilet paper, paper towels etc...)

I have made Amanda Jensen (girlfriend to Travis) the ONLY one that can make withdrawals from this fund, so she can withdrawal funds as needed sense Travis is unable to drive or get around very well!

*Please feel free to ask any questios you may have.*
I do want to make it very clear though that Travis was NOT at any way in fault for this gun being removed from the matress, set on the floor, or even in the same room as the toddler when the gun was fired. He had NO knowledge this gun was even in the house! He simply went to help a friend move after working a grave yard shift & this happened.

UPDATE:
(April 1st 16') Medical Bills are being paid for

Original Story: (March 31st 16')

My brother Travis Sorensen was involved in a horrible gun accident over the weekend. His family is in need of help for the next couple months with monthly bills while he is out of work.

On Saturday March 26th Travis was over helping a family move. While in the process of helping, non family members broke down a bed, and a gun was found between the matresses. It was then placed on the floor without any of the family members knowledge. A short time later, it was found by a 3 year old toddler. The bullet went through the floor, ricocheted off the metal part of the window, and through his left foot. He was rushed to E.I.R.M.C. in Idaho Falls. X-rays reviled that two bones in his foot were fractured and his pinky toe was shattered. He will be undergoing surgery to fix the shattered toe. The doctors will be using bone from his hip to replace the bone in his foot. Right now the doctors are awaiting surgery to make sure it is safe to operate with no infection.

We've been told that Travis will be out of work for at least 6 weeks, but could be up to 12 weeks, have physcal thearapy for 6 months, and will have a long recovery ahead.  Any money donated will go to help with the families monthly expenses, until Travis can get back on his feet and back to work. Travis LOVES his job, but because of this horrible accident, is unable to work at this time.

Our family has been so GREATFUL and HUMBLED by this expereance. Words can't even descirbe the love, help, and concern that has already been given by so many. We are very THANKFUL for any help in this time of need!!!
