This small donation means a child like Anakin can stay close to his family at Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon—a temporary home for families who must travel to Vancouver for their seriously ill child’s medical treatment. For Anakin, the best part of staying at the House was practicing karate.
The Fretts Family
On September 21st, 2014, the unthinkable happened for the Fretts family, when Anakin was involved in a major car accident. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and was flown to the ICU at BC Children's Hospital. Since then, his parents and little sister, 4-year-old Arwyn, have been staying at Ronald McDonald House—watching every procedure, reading every chart, and meeting every member of his medical team. Doctors warned that Anakin may never walk again. But through hard work, rehabilitation and practicing in the halls at the House, he was able to start walking on his own. And now, he's even been able to return to karate class—his favourite activity.

For over thirty years, Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon has been providing accommodation for seriously ill children and their families when they must travel to Vancouver for their child’s major treatment. The House serves 2,000 families each year in 73 spacious suites.
On June 2, 2014, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital was also opened. A House within the hospital, the Ronald McDonald Family Room serves over 700 families each year, and is a welcoming refuge for families of children admitted for treatment.
