Dear Friends, Families, Neighbors, Community-
I am THANKFUL to have the opportunity to speak to you about this family that needs us!
A wonderful family within our community is in need of our help as Frank Gromak continues his battle with terminal Brain Cancer. The mounting medical bills during his fight with this cancer over the past several years has become overwhelming, especially after just surviving throat cancer a few years prior. Frank is now unable to drive or work and the doctors are now trying alternative clinical trials. He has had several surgeries on the brain tumor and chemo monthly over the past several years, those are not options any longer as they are no longer effective.
Frank is a fighter, born and raised in Michigan he grew up playing hockey and played High School Ice Hockey as now does his son Conner at Edison High School. Carole and Frank have been married 19 years and have 2 beautiful children Conner in 9th grade at Edison and and Kelsie in 7th grade at Sowers. Kelsie is the classic darling Huntington Beach Surfer girl who jumps in the ocean in the early hours while most of us are still sleep and Conner the ice hockey player who has played travel hockey with the Jr Ducks several years as well. Carole is an avid volunteer in the community, PTA leader of past years, as well as several other volunteer positions within our community and schools. Carole is an amazing Mom who puts her family and friends first and GIVES to others everyday it is just her nature! Always a smile on her face Carole is a strong force in the Gromak family. Carole recently lost her mother to lung cancer, while at the same time being Franks advocate in his battle aginast brain cancer. Frank in recent years was at every game for the kids while this season he does not have the energy to get there, it is heart breaking as we know he wants to be there!
It is a very difficult time for this amazing family and we would like to try to take some of the financial burden away as EVERY day the Gromak's are waking up to this battle agianst brain cancer, not knowing what each new day brings them! This is taking every ounce of energy for all of them to get up and fight! The Gromaks are taking one day at a time, one step in front of the other at the moment, hoping and praying that an alternative medicine will be the cure all and that Frank will be cancer free again!
I had a conversation one day with Conner on the way to a hockey game last year, he told me about his visit to Big Bear with his dad. He also explained to me how his Dad was teaching him how to take care of things when he was gone and no longer able to get up to the cabin with them. Hearing a 14yr old boy talk about the possiblility that his Dad may not make it up to the cabin again....it was heart wrenching! This family has gone through so much over the past few years.
During this season of Giving ....as a community I am reaching out to you to take a moment and give anything you can to help the Gromaks get through the next few months as they make many transitions. Please Pray for Frank, his doctors and the family. We need to fight for eachother and take CARE of eachother, that is something we do have control over in this world! I am very thankful to have known the Gromak family for over the last 10+ years, they are wonderful caring people and have blessed our community in so many ways....I am hopeful now that we can now bless them in return.
