Griffin Bugg Wheelchair Van Project

Donation protected
Hi there!

My name is Griffin Bugg, and I am 8 years old.  I have a condition called Isolated Lissencephaly, which means my brain didn't form the same as most people.  It doesn't have the folds like normal brains and Lissencephaly litteraly means "smooth brain".  I can't talk or walk, and am developmentally delayed but I am a very happy little boy!  I have a big brother who loves me and helps me a lot and his name is Devin.  My Mom and Dad are Sondra and Michael Bugg.

My condition causes multiple daily seizures and I am what some call medically complex.  I have a G-tube which means I get my food through a tube that goes directly into my belly.  This tube makes it much easier for me to get all of the many medicines that I take everyday as I often can't take things orally.  This also helps make sure that I get the nutrition that I need to continue to grow.

As I am getting bigger now, it is much harder for my Mom and Dad to move me around and transfer me from my wheelchair into the special car seat I have.  My wheelchair is also heavy and so Mom and Dad need to pick that up and put it in the back of the van to move me around.  I am also getting taller and so I don't have the leg room to stretch out my legs when I have seizures.  This became a big issue when this summer, I had a big seizure and my legs straightened out and pressed against the drivers seat in front.  The seizure was strong enough that I actually broke my femur.  This brings us to the current project to help with my safety.

Our family is in need of a Wheelchair Van so that I can be safely secured in my chair, and will have the appropriate leg room to stretch out when I have seizures.  This helps many things for me and my family.  We will be able to much more easily roll me right into the van and not have to transfer me out of the chair to go places.  On my bad days, when I don't have the strenght to hold myself up, my wheelchair tilts back and has lateral supports to keep me comfortable so I don't have to sort of hang in the straps of my car seat.  This also means that it will be easier for me to go with my family where ever we go because right now, it is dificult to do things all together because of the constant need to transfer.  We often just have either Mom or Dad wait in the Van with me when we go somewhere or I stay home with one of them when Devin has to go do something.  I would much rather be with the family all the time and this will help.

Because I have a lot of Doctor's appointments, and sometimes fall into respiratory distress on large seizures, my family is a single income family because my parents always need to be available if I have some issues.  This means that we can't afford to go buy a new van for me, and so we are fundraising to help me with this project.

The challenge is that these vans new are very expensive, they range from $55,000 to $75,000.   We have been able to raise $23,000 so far which is wonderful!  Our plan is raise as much as we can, then buy the newest wheelchair van we can find (so that it will last me as long as possible).  We need to start that process mid-November as some of the funding runs out by the end of the year so the purchase has to go through before then.

This project is very important to my safety and will be a tremendous help to my family.  Every little bit will help us in this project, and we couldn't be more thankful for your consideration and your support.

Thank you!
