The Golden Seed Savers was started in the spring of 2017 by Kelly Beth as a division of the Golden Community Garden, to bring seed saving to the Golden, Colorado community.
Seed Saver's Exchange donated seeds via their Communty Seed Resource Program, which allowed Kelly Beth to put together a makeshift seed bank, adding in her own organically grown and heirloom seeds to give for free to our community through seed saving workshops at the Golden Community Garden.
In 2017 Kelly Beth grew over 250 plants from seed at her home to grow entirely for donation to the Golden Community Garden.
All soil, trays, seeds, markers, etc. was entirely from Kelly Beth's pockets. She raised over $350 from the plant drive for the Golden Community Garden. That's felt SO good!
In 2018, she will grow even more plants for the drive, but she needs some help! The Golden Seed Savers must pay for a location for the seeds to be stored and checked out to our community. Currently, all the seeds are stored in Kelly Beth's garage, and are not accessible to the community unless we have a meetup or seed swap or Kelly Beth is contacted directly. We need more seed trays and lights and the ability to have a proper website for the Golden Seed Savers, and all of the crucial little things like seed envelopes and hand stamp, and to be able to bring in local experts on seed saving.
This all adds up and your help is needed to keep the Golden Seed Savers growing!
above are true Aleppo pepper seeds I acquired from a Syrian seed saver in 2011. I managed to keep at least one plant growing every year, and last year I started 5 plants from the original seed, saving and sending out saved Aleppo pepper seeds to seed savers and seed libraries in 9 states!
This year, we are hoping to be a part of the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance's effort in preserving and growing ancient grains.
