The Balkan Info Van is a new grassroots solidarity project aiming to provide free practical information to migrants facing the difficult route through the Dalmatian Corridor (Bosnia-Croatia-Slovenia) into the European Union.

We believe that people fleeing violence in their home countries (whether physical or economic) should have the right to seek refuge in Europe. Yet today there are over 3000 people living in squat tenements and informal camps across NW Bosnia who do not have this right.

Migrants from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia are making the dangerous foot crossing through the Dinaric Alps, facing days without adequate food and water. Yet time and again these vulnerable groups are denied their basic right to claim asylum in the EU as member governments enact illegal pushbacks. People are regularly physically beaten by police before being deported, along with their possesions and money being taken and phones broken.

The Balkan Info Van aim to support refugees in their struggle against the EU border regime. Below are the projects main objectives:

1) To operate a mobile information service around the border areas collating timely and relevant information for migrants on resources available to them.
2) Produce accessible material (in relevant languages) on asylum rights and transit risks such as "pushbacks" in the countries of Bosnia and Herz., Croatia and Slovenia.
3) Work closely with current organisations and volunteer groups to provide a consistent and sensitively deployed border monitoring presence, gathering testimony and evidence for relevant media and legal support agencies.
4) Provide a respite area for people to talk to the team, socialise, take refreshment and gain some small reprieve from the harsh issues they are facing.

If you, or someone you know, is able to financially contribute to this project then please donate what you can. If you would like to find out more then feel free to contact us at [email redacted].

The below link outlines the proposed operations of the BIV team, an overview of the situation in NW Bosnia and a breakdown of our expenditure (how your pennies will be spent).

As the document outlines, the finances will be spread over a three month operative period, during which time the money will be used to fund info material, printing, the vehicles running costs and volunteer accommodation. You will also find a bio for each team member outlining there experience in the field. Please read through the proposal and contact us with any queries about our work.
