Reaching out for Reef

Never an easy post - although unfortunately in times like this it’s necessary to put the call out to all friends and family of Guy, Leisa, Aria & Reef.
Two weeks ago, over the Telethon weekend Guy & Leis where given the news all parents dread to hear, that Reef has been diagnosed with Leukaemia. Not only was/is it a huge shock, but it’s also a reoccurring nightmare particularly for Leisa’s family who experienced the heartbreaking loss of her brother Ryan to the same disease.
It's been a tough year for this close-knit family with Guy needing two spinal surgeries also. This had a huge emotional and financial impact on their family, but as everyone who knows this awesome couple, they were able to rise above it.
Leisa and Guy are great friends to so many people, they are possibly the most generous, giving and kindest family you would come across - it would be hard-pressed to not be on the receiving end of the Hudson love; that at one time or another albeit, first (2nd & 3rd) time parents, busy Mum’s, tired neighbours, friends under the weather you would hear a knock at the door, and there was either one of them dropping in to lend a hand or a home-cooked meal.
They now have a very long road ahead of them while Reef undergoes treatment. The next few months and years are going to be incredibly challenging for them emotionally and financially, especially given that none of their family are in Perth. As family, friends and work colleagues, we are feeling helpless and hope that this can be one way we can help support them through this journey.
Our goal is to get as many people as possible to rally around the Hudson’s and Reef, so some of the financial pressure is off their family, and they can be on the receiving end for a change. Guy and Leisa need time to be together as a family, not only supporting Reef but taking care of Aria as well. This will mean having to take time off work, readjusting to the usual goals of Reef starting Kindy/School, their own family travel and plans will all have to be put on hold.
Guy and Leisa were VERY hesitant for us to start a GoFundMe page for their family (they are givers and NOT takers after-all). However the reality is sinking in and they have slowly come around to the idea (particularly as there has been such a huge response from those who want to show support & love to them, etc)…
On a positive note, Reef is in the country’s best hospital with one of the best oncologists in the world, he has been the bravest little action hero, charming all the nurses with his deadly smile and loving his ever-expanding LEGO collection (and his own widescreen digital tv!).
So, if the Hudson’s have made a positive impact in your life in one way or another, and you would like to help, please dig deep. We know that every cent would be deeply appreciated by this family. Please help us get behind the Hudson’s and share far and wide.
