John's Wheelchair Fund
Spende geschützt
Wouldn't it be great if we lived in the richest country in the world…
And the poor and handicapped wouldn't have to ask for handouts…
Well we do… so isn't it great that we have a place like Go Fund Me…
So a little about me…Hi I'm John Roach…
I'm a lucky guy that has lived in the same place with my wonderful wife for the last 30 years.
I've been a carpenter… contractor… sound engineer… Macintosh computer tech… tree farmer.. Etc.
I've been fortunate enough to live in the woods of central North Carolina most of my life…It is a piece of heaven…
I fell from a ladder in 2004 and suffered a C-4 incomplete spinal cord injury.
It took me several months just to be able to get into a wheelchair from a bed.
From there I went from a sip and puff style wheelchair controls, and then to a joystick.
I spent three years in physical and occupational therapy… and a fourth year in pool therapy,
where I learned to stand and walk briefly with a walker.
Ever since I've gotten that ability… I do it every day… I have learned how to regiment myself out of necessity.
I'm 6 feet 2 1/2 inches tall and 210 pounds of weight… so I'm too damn big to move…
So I exercise 3 times a day… every day.
I've been in a wheelchair for 12 1/2 years, this will be my third chair…
Because of my height they have to extend the frame.
The f3 is a nicer chair and it has suspension, so I can go outside without feeling beat to tears.
The chair cost $27,000 …my co-pay is $4000 plus $2000 for the seat elevator.
I need the seat elevator in order to stand and transfer out of the chair.
I know it's a lot of money… but it's where I live.
Thanks for considering a donation and taking time to read my story… John
