Hello Family and Friends,
My Chiang Rai Elephant adventure is just around the corner and I am super excited. Not only is this providing me with exposure to Thai culture and cuisine but the opportunity to deep dive into the work that I may be doing as a Wildlife Biologist.
The community service I will be completing is a combination of working with the elephants at the sanctuary in Chiang Rai and teaching English at a primary school. In many countries like Thailand where elephants are native, they're treated very badly for the sake of the tourism industry. A lot of the elephants at the sanctuary are sick or old, so having people to take care of them is really beneficial. The goal of the elephant sanctuary is to let the animals lead their lives as naturally and as stress-free as possible. I will be working with local conservationists who have committed their lives to promoting healthy relationships between humans and elephants.
During my downtime I will bike through rice paddies, visit natural hot springs, waterfalls, and much more.
Although I have raised some money for the trip I am continuing to fund-raise to minimize the out of pocket money that my family is putting towards my balance. I am entering my senior year and college will be right around the corner. I am asking for your help to offset any final expenses. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide so that I can participate in this amazing experience, I will be eternally grateful and will provide lots of pictures.
