Tiny Houses for the Homeless!!!

Gateways High School in Springfield, Oregon serves a diverse selection of students, many of whom have faced challenges in school or in life, and all of whom are working hard to better themselves through getting a quality education. 

This year, students in the Engineering and Design class decided to work to do something to help lessen the struggles of people without housing in our area, and voted to design and build a tiny house to donate for use by a qualified person in need. 


We've conducted research, learned about construction and design, and worked in small groups to design an 8x12 house that will fill the most pressing needs of an unsheltered person, while keeping it simple enough to be buildable in a reasonable amount of time, by student and community volunteers. 

Alex Daniell of Backyard Bunaglows has volunteered to oversee the operation, and will provide expertise and training to make sure the structure meets local coding requirements and is structurally sound and energy efficient.

We've got a lot of support  from people in the community who want to help, and now is the time for people to put their proverbial money where their mouths are, and donate any amount to help us reach our goal of making our tiny house a reality.  We've chosen a person and location, and now we need to make the home. 

We'll accept donations in kind as well, so please refer to our list of needed materials, below, to see if you can help by donating something that we need.  We can provide tax receipts for charitible donations, too.


We're hoping to be able to begin construction in April, so the house will be ready by May.
