Canada Can Give A Home To Dima

Donation protected
Dima was a young woman when civil war broke out in her native Syria. She first escaped Homs, her hometown, when the Christian part of the city where she lived was attacked by ISIS and then narrowly escaped a car bomb in front of the Damascus bank where she worked. She escaped Syria and came to Canada. Soon after her arrival she found herself a victim of domestic violence and fled to the local women's shelter with her baby. She is temporarily living in a women's shelter with her 18 month old son Angelo. She relies solely on the shelter for food and other necessities and cannot work or go to school. Dima is applying to stay in Canada under Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds but there is no financial support from the government for such cases. She needs your help to leave the shelter, find housing and support herself and her baby until her application is approved and she is legally able to work. After everything she's been through Dima is trying to rebuild her life in Canada. Your support means everything to Dima and her little boy. Thank you

Emerging from the conflict ridden and war-torn Syria to become a refugee, Dima faced many personal hardships, and overcame numerous struggles to find herself successfully landed in Toronto. Although Dima had always dreamed of leaving Syria and making a better life for herself, her efforts to immigrate to Canada became intensified after narrowly escaping capture from the radical ISIS group in her hometown, Homs.

Unfortunately, Dima’s life would be threatened once more in the town of Damascus, where she was taking residence while awaiting safe journey to Canada. Working as a bank teller, Dima nearly became the victim of a car bomb explosion, which was detonated at the store front of her bank sending lethal shards of glass throughout the bank and resulted in the injuries and deaths of numerous innocent bystanders.

Finally arriving in Toronto, Dima aspired to lead a life that many of us pursue: the cultivation of a happy and sound marriage; financial security; the fulfillment of hopes and dreams; and raising children. Sadly, in her pursuit of this life, Dima would soon find self to be the victim of domestic violence. To protect her child, Dima fled to a local shelter.

As a result of her situation, Dima now finds herself in a precarious position regarding the laws and rights of Refugees. She is now applying to stay in Canada under Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds, but sadly the government of Canada is providing no financial assistance for individuals who are attempting to stay in Canada under these grounds. Further complicating Dima’s situation is the fact that individuals who are not yet registered to stay in Canada under the Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds are not legally allowed to work in Canada until their application has been approved, which is the situation Dima now finds herself in.

As we reflect on our lives while drawing on Dima’s story, the staff at HighGate recognize that they are truly fortunate to reside in a country where our basic needs are taken care of, and the concerns regarding our lives are not perilous. As a result, here at HighGate, we have made it our mission to provide Dima with temporary assistance, which will act as an interim bridge until Dima’s application is approved and she is legally allowed to work. To kick start this initiative, HighGate Property Investments Inc. will be providing:

Jonathan Maloney and his team at High Gate Properties located in Toronto, Ontario Canada will be raising funds for Dima so that her and her son do not have to live in a shelter.
