Hello,
My name is Richard.
I fled Nigeria to seek asylum in the US in July, 2018. I was lured and then ambushed by a group of men who attacked me for starting A Nasty Boy, an LGBTQ+ magazine in a country where it is criminal to be gay. I arrived at JFK, like many asylum seekers before me, with no clear sight of what the future held for me.
Since then, I've lived in DC - where I filed my asylum application - and now, Arlington, VA where I'm currently staying with friends for a short while.
Although I hold two law degrees and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a lawyer in 2017, I'm unable to legally work in the US by law. I've had to rely on my savings and the kindness of friends to get by all these months.
However, I've since run out of savings. I'm in need of money to get by for the next few months until my case is heard and decided.
Every donation you make towards this goal will be appreciated from the depth and fullness of my heart. And I hope that I, too, can someday pass on this kindness you've shown me to someone in need.
