Undocumented Media Strategist At The Border

Summer Go Fund Me Mission:

I am an undocumented immigrant rights activist, media/digital communications strategist and youth leader who has been working alongside my community since I was 14 years old.

I am now 22 years old. I obtained my associates in Diplomacy and International Relations from Union County Community College in New Jersey. Graduated May 2017. Shortly after, Trump rescinded DACA.

September 2017 to be exact, was when my work specifically targeting immigrant rights began. However, my work as an activist started at the age of 14, forming part of committees to bring change to my high school in the hood. Yet when Trump was elected and eventually ended DACA, my activism became the most intense it had ever been.

I began lobbying, protesting, sharing my story, working with youth and building a platform online. I began to work alongside senators, elected leaders and truly did not feel afraid because my work was fueled by anger and pain of knowing my family, our communities, the children in our homes were not safe.

In November 2018, after working around voter rights for a couple of months, news and social media platforms blasted the ‘Migrant Caravan Crisis’ and I began to see large platforms profiting from owning MY community’s story.

With pain in my heart I built a Go Fund Me with the goal of heading to the border and giving my platform to those who did not feel heard. My goal was to basically let my instagram be the sounding board for all of the people in my community whose stories and work were being exploited by media and by those in power online.

I accomplished my goal. I was in California for 1 month. I was able to connect with over 30 organizations that lead immigrant rights work. Now, I am in conversation with these organizations to provide support for them as a media/digital communications strategist. Amongst these organizations are Al Otro Lado, CARECEN, Esperanza and Migrant Freedom, to name a few.

The problem is that these organizations cannot afford a social media strategist and this is where all support is needed in order to be able to be in California to do this work. I went for a month and was able to connect immensely and be a resource to so many communities already doing powerful work.

It’d be beyond useful to spend the summer doing media trainings, helping build online presence, supporting youth organizing teams and being present in a community who tremendously needs the support.

I’ve been working to find grants or people to fund me but have not been successful. I appreciate any and all support and welcome any amplification of this mission. If in one month I was able to establish strong connection to the community and conversation, I believe that in 3 months I can leave valuable strategic media plans, build youth power and truly support an already strong community.

I would use $2,000 a month, which would cover living expenses, money to make up the time i’m doing free work and transportation. For a total of $6,000 for 3 months of doing work.

Thank you in advance for everyone who believes in this work because it’s about so many more people than myself. Not everyone who looks as if they are creating change does. Trust and believe that I will. I am hoping to head out June and at least work until August. Those of you who know me personally know this work is my life. Thank you.
