Get Melvin Bonded out of Detention

Donation protected
As many of you know, my list of detainees has increased significantly in the last few months. On my last trip to Texas, my client asked me to talk to a young kid that had been there longer than him. I met Melvin, a scared young man that witnessed the death of his father and ran wth his 13 year old sister to the US. He has no one other than an American Citizen sponsor that knew his family when she lived in their country. I took his case, and his sister's, on a pro bono basis.  Melvin and his sister were separated at the border---he has been detained for 120 days and hasn't seen his sister since. I won his bond hearing yesterday, but they set it at $6000. His sponsor has borrowed $4000 and she's tapped out every resource she has.  His sister will be released to him if he gets out of the detention facility. If not, she will continue to be detained. I have seen where she is being detained. The social workers have denied that she is increasingly desperate and slipping into chronic depression. She is in complete isolation and the case worker refuses to let me speak to her or make any effort to contact her brother. DHS is doing its best to ensure these kids are as psychologically damaged as possible.  I'm asking for help in raising the remaining $2,000 to get him released. This is literally what stands in his way of seeing his sister again, so they can begin to rebuild their lives. He has seen nothing but cement walls for 120 days. No windows. No outside time. Just a cell with other detainees. Showers happen once a week-- if they are lucky. Its deplorable and inhumane.   I have fundraised in the past for causes, but not for a detainee. I can't do it for all of them. But I just cannot ignore what this would mean for these two kids. Many of you have asked me what you can do to help, and this is it.  I'm asking for any monetary donation, because this dollar amount being reached literally means everything to these two kids. Regardless of your political affiliation, or where you stand on immigration, this is about our humanity, and looking at ourselves and our children and counting our blessings , and paying it forward so that others who need this help can live with at least some of the freedoms we take for granted.  Thank you SO much, for any support you can give. Melvin and his sister will never forget how they were finally able to be reunited.
