College Basketball Prospects of America is continuing a clothing, equipment and fundraising campaign to benefit the youth of Ségou, Mali and we need your help!
Ségou is the hometown of Almamy Thiero, located in the heart of the Western African country of Mali. The youth of Ségou face numerous challenges, including intense poverty, malnutrition, limited access to water and electricity, low literacy rates, and one of the world’s highest infant mortality rates.
One of the joys of Ségouan youth is the chance to play soccer and basketball. Many view these sports as a means to escape from their challenges and pursue a better life in Europe or America. As you can probably imagine and can see in the pictures attached, basketball equipment is in short supply and their courts are in very poor condition.
We want to make a difference in the lives of these kids by providing much needed help. Last year we sent 7 barrels of basketball equipment and clothing. You can see from pictures on the following pages, the gear really touched the hearts of those who have far less than we enjoy here in the U.S. We are hoping to build on that effort in 2017 by sending between 7 – 10 barrels of clothing, shoes, and equipment! Each 55 gallon barrel measures roughly 34 inches in height and is used to safely transport our donations. A list of items and shipping costs are listed below.
Items Needed:
• Basketball or sports gear such as shoes, shorts, socks, shirts, basketballs, basketball nets, air pumps, soccer cleats and soccer balls
• General clothing and footwear for men, women, and children
Monetary Donations: Monetary donations will be used to ship the clothing and equipment to Ségou at a cost of $300 per barrell. We are seeking to raise $3500 to $5000 to ship 7 – 10 barrels.
Where to Donate: A donation box will be available at Prospects practices and the first two “ALL IN” Summer Skills Camps through the end of June. Monetary donations may be given to Al Thiero or Len Cullo
