Local Homeschooling Growing Needs

$80 of $5,000 goal

Guilford Christian Academy started out with just 4 families in 2002. Our desire has always been  to do something for the homeschooling community. Over the years we have grown to serve many families and children. Our enrollment has been over 300 for the past several years and we desire to have an office space where we can offer more to those we serve. For example, if we had space we could store curriculum, science equipment, and other materials that have been donated and provide a place where families could come in borrow  or rent these materials, we just do not have the place for it in our home anymore.  We would like to use the assistance of those in the community to provide tutoring and classes as well as workshops but we do not have to ability to do that in our home. It is time to spread our wings and fly a bit and be a better resourse for the homeschoolers in Maine.

Our Mission
Mission Statement of Guilford Christian Academy :
Being led of the Lord to start Guilford Christian Academy in 2002, my wife Patricia and I, James White, have filed all the appropriate paperwork to the state of Maine. It is our desire to assist parents and their children in furthering their education by providing them a means by which to homeschool in a legal manner.

It is our belief that God has provided in his Word, the Bible, all necessary and prudent direction in training children. His Word says:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deuteronomy 6:5-7), and The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Psalms 111:10)

We offer to our families any assistance that we can possibly give them through our experiences in Homeschooling the past several years. We will provide students with a diploma at the end of their studies at a high school level. However, we denounce a diploma as the goal to achieve. Instead, we feel that it is much more appropriate that the parent and child alike desire that wisdom be their goal; wisdom being the ability to utilize knowledge with discernment and prudence. It is our prayer that by seeking wisdom our students will be able to achieve to the extent of their potential throughout their life.

Things are picking up at the new office. We have become a member of the Chamber of Commerce and are working hard at getting our name out there. We will have a booth at the Whoopie Pie Festival this summer for homeschoolers to share their crafts or project.

We have gotten two working older laptops repaired to use for future classes that will require internet or computer use. The struggle right now is the internet connection. We have permission to use the building managers internet but it is very spotty and weak for us upstairs and at the other end of the building.
We would like to get our own service so that we have a stronger faster connection. The cost will be about $50 per month and we are just not able to afford that at this time. We make enough for the lease but not much more. We have been receiving some donations of curriculum for the lending library and we have someone that is going to be looking for some more laptops to put in for the upcoming classes.
Would you like to help with this need? Please consider a donation for our monthly internet connection. If we get enough for a year of service I will get it connected but we cannot afford to do it without your help.
Support homeschoolers in the state of Maine! Thank you.

We are settling in and getting the word out. We have many homeschoolers contacting us daily and have provided curriculum and other services already.
We have 4 laptops now for students and parents to use and to be used for workshops and classes.
We would like to have more curriculum to offer but it will come.
If you make a donation by January 29th all of that donation will go towards purchasing some courses for use from http://www.thegreatcourses.com/tgc/courses/specialoffer?sa=gen95. They are having a great sale right now with lots of options. Thank you for your contribution!

Painting is complete! Now to get some furniture. Please consider donations of a desk, chair, 84" curtains, file cabinet, art, knitting and sewing supplies, various small tables, 6' folding tables and lots of folding chairs. We have a few workshops and project meetings set up and look forward to what the Lord will bring our way. Hand gun safety is in the works as well. Thank you for your prayers, funds and time to those that have already and will be giving. Happy Homeschooling!

I felt intimidated at first because my donation is paltry, but if everyone knows it's ok to give just $10 or even $5, the goal will be achieved faster than if just a few give larger amounts. Many tiny threads weave a strong cloth!
