Gaudet After Hours Homework Club

Donation protected
Hello.  My name is Kimberly D'Arpino.  I am an eighth grade Social Studies teacher at Gaudet Middle School in Middletown, RI.  I have been teaching there for 26 years.
I am trying to raise money to help support a program which is near and dear to my heart. It is quite frankly the favorite part of my day. I began this program three years ago with another colleague, never realizing how big it would grow. There is a tremendous need for after school support for many of our students.  Because of lack of funding, there are no longer busses available to transport our students home after hours from school, so help with homework is difficult for many.  We have been lucky to have found a place at the local low income housing in Middletown(Oxbow Farms), for free.  The room is huge and includes a kitchen and bathroom.  There, we are able to meet with students who would not be able to get the extra help after school that they truly need.  All Gaudet students are welcome to attend, not only those who live there.
We meet three times each week.  Volunteer teachers help me provide homework support, a light meal and a safe atmosphere for up to and sometimes more than twenty five students each day.  High school students act as peer tutors as well to earn community service hours. The MIddletown police department has asked to become involved as an inspirational support too.  It is a place many children consider a second home.  It is, however, expensive to run...
We have many needs, from food items, cleaning products, toilet paper and school supplies to new tables and chairs, just to mention a few.  I would also like to try to get some internet access and laptops this year to help with research for homework.  I do have some awesome PTG support through my school and other teachers helping as well.  I am hoping to raise two thousand dollars to buy the larger items to make it more like home.  If you would like to see some pictures, please message me privately and I would be happy to share them with you. Even better, if you are a teacher,  studying to be a teacher, or retired teacher with some extra time to spare (especially on a  Monday orTuesday), message me! I would eventually love to create a summer extention program too...
Thank you so much for your help and support!
