#GambiaHasDecided – Voice of the people
The hash tag #GambiaHasDecided is a locally based non-profit civil society initiative that is made up of a diverse collection of voices, speaking as one, with the intention to stand for all Gambians in defending the choice of our people, our constitution, and to uphold our sovereignty. This initiative aims to ensure that our democracy is preserved, underpinned by the rule of law, respect for human rights, freedom of expression, unity in purpose, and above all peace.
These ideals we believe, are consistent with who we are as Gambians, and that no individual or communal trait, such as tribe, political affiliation, association, interest, takes precedence over our duty to our country, The Gambia. Hence our nonpartisan stance is fundamental in ensuring that these ideals are not only associated with those of us who promote democracy today, but can be preserved by future generations yet to come.
We began with a successful social media campaign which has now been extended to the printing of shirts,billboards, bumper stickers, and caps; all bearing the hash tag #GambiaHasDecided message. So far, our activities have been funded from personal resources and donations from friends/family. Our goal is to spread our message to as many Gambians through different media, promotional items with a bold target of producing at least 50,000 T-shirts before the inauguration of the President Elect Adama Barrow ; and putting billboards up at strategic locations across the greater Banjul area .
We hereby humbly ask for your support to reach our goals within this short but very crucial transition period. This will go a long way in ensuring that Gambians, especially the youth who have been silenced for too long, are finally given a chance to express themselves through a peaceful approach worth emulating.
