Hi! My name is Karlea Lynne' Boswell-Edwards, some may have seen me perform under the name of "Karlea Lynne' ". I have created this page to ask for your support
I am a high school senior who is currently attending Howard W. Blake High School.
I have been accepted to Berklee College Of Music with a $20,000 scholarship. This is a goal Ive aimed for my entire life. I cannot begin to express to you the utter joy I felt when I reviewed my acceptance letter.
A couple months after that, I flew to Boston to compete in Berklee's first ever Jazz Singers Competition. The school provided all competitors with vocal training from Debra Byrd (American Idol and The Voice vocal coach). I was the only competitor from the south and didn't really know what to expect, but I am proud to tell you that I won the competition and was given a full tuition scholarship for the summer.
With all my accomplishments, you can imagine the devastation my family felt when we were informed that the school would only award me about $5000 in financial aid. The cost of tuition is around $67,000 ( $7,000 more than my family's income) .
To avoid devastation I had taken all necessary precautions , I completed my FASFA on New Years Day (the first day it became available) and everyday I apply to a scholarship whether it be online or via mail.
It would mean the world to me if theres was some way you could plant a seed in my life and assist me in getting my education. I had to fight through alot of barriers to get to this point in my life. I had teachers tell me I wouldn't get into college, my father passed away my sophomore year and I often struggled with peers telling me I wasn't talented. I am working to do everything I can to fund my education.
My family falls in a very awkward middle class position, were not poor enough to receive the aid we need , but we dont make enough money to fund my education.Therefore the school says they cannot grant me more money because according to numbers "we dont need it".
I will be graduating with a 3.95 GPA out of 4.0 .
I have worked very hard to beat the odds against me. If there is any way you can help me reach my goal of attending college at the school I have dreamed of please let me know.

National Young Arts Foundation Merit Award Winner, International Sarah Vaughan Competition rank #6 out of 200 applicants (3rd by popular vote), Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt Winner both locally and state wide, NAACP act-so gold medalist, FMEA all-state jazz band vocalist, House of Blues Bringin’ Down The House performer. Most recently I competed in the first Berklee High School Jazz Festival Jazz Singer Showcase. I won and opened their awards ceremony to an audience of 5,000 people as the first high school performer of the night. I have had the honor of performing at many events sponsored and/or hosted by The City Of Tampa as well as The NAACP, Tuskegee Alumni Association, Hillsborough County School Board, The Women's Interest Network and even the Lakeland, Tampa and Wesley Chapel Jazz Festivals.
