Mom's Cancer Fight

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

As most of you already know my mom who is 53 years old was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer of the duodenum back in July 2016. Once you have read this you will know why I am reaching out to you.

Despite numerous test and trips to the doctors here in Canada they failed to diagnose my mom and therefore she travelled to Poland in May 2016. Once in Poland my mom's health continued to decline to the point where she could no longer eat or drink anything. At this point the doctors in Poland found a tumour in her duodenum ( first part of the small intestine.) The tumor completely blocked the passage through the small intestines and she was immediately rushed to hospital for surgery. She underwent a serious, very intrusive 6 hour surgery and was forbidden any type of travel. My mom was too weak to return to Canada for further treatment.

My mom has minimal health coverage in Poland and most of the good health care comes from private practices, which you all know can be very expensive. Her health kept deteriorating. She felt something was wrong and requested a colonoscopy but the doctor's refused saying she had one a year and half prior so they would not cover that expense. My mom not satisfied, went to a private clinic and got a colonoscopy which showed another polyp/tumor on her cecum. She underwent a second surgery December 2016. They removed part of her colon, small intestines, 16 lymph nodes and found that cancer has spread to her peritoneum (stomach lining).

After several appointments with several different oncologists with one saying go ahead with chemo the other one saying don’t do chemo they finally set a date to do her first round in March 2017. She went for her first round and did not handle it well at all. My mom was desperate for another way and found a clinic 2.5 hours from their town in Gdansk that deal with alternative cancer treatments called " Centrum Medyczne Sw. Lukasza". She called and made an appointment. They recommended she do a blood test in Germany to indicate which chemotherapy is better for her type of cancer. The test looked at her blood to see which chemo will work on her type of cancers and her cancer cell count. She did the test and the results came back that Folfori chemotherapy would work (had a success rate of) 60% and Folfox 45%. My mom returned to her oncologist and showed him the results stating she would like Folfori 60% chemo and they refused. They would only give her the 45% one which did not make any sense to her. They were rude and almost appeared as if they wanted to give her the lower type of chemo on purpose. They gave her no reasonable explanation or support in the treatment they were recommending.

Due to all of this we had to broaden our knowledge and do our own research. The doctors have expressed that this type of cancer is very rare and they have little to no experience in treating it. We have chosen to take a more natural approach in my moms journey to battle this cancer. My mom was not happy with the 45% success rate and it did not make sense to poison her body and weaken her immune system when she was already much too sick to handle it. To us it made more sense to build up her immune system so that her body can fight and then hopefully heal.

My mom looked at both options very intensely and the decision was not easy. Its not that she doesn't

believe in chemotherapy because it may work for some types of cancers but given my moms rare type of cancer, her age and the fact that they don’t have much experience and case studies in treating small intestine cancer with chemotherapy she opted not to undergo chemotherapy.

I am trying desperately to save my mother's life and help her to enjoy the quality of life that she deserves. She has started treatment at the alternative clinic in Gdansk which has been very expensive. Doctor Krzysztof whom she bonded with right away put her on a 6 week treatment plan consisting of infusions of Vitamin C, B12, Curcumin, Mistletoe injections and many more vitamin supplement transfusions in which my mom was extremely low in. She did an extensive blood analysis (all done in Germany) to see what her body was missing which came back low in areas like vitamin D, Selenium, Iodine and B12/17.

My boyfriend Frank has also been an extreme help to my family and has travelled with me to Poland to show my mom the diet plan and to support her in this difficult time. He introduced me to Tom who is a wheatgrass farmer just North of Newmarket called "Dynamic Greens". He purchased 800 ounces from him which we brought with us to Poland. This was a mission to bring to Poland as it was frozen in coolers, none the less we made it and my mom has been benefiting from it.

We have spent a large amount of money on treatment so far and there is still a long road ahead of her, this is just the beginning. I am pleading for a bit of help from you, even just a little I know will go a long way. Whatever you can donate would help us in this battle and we believe this is the only way we can save her life. Unfortunately this way is more expensive because it isn't covered by insurance or big pharma because there is not as much money to be made in alternative natural treatments as there is in conventional treatments.

My mom is finally happy and feels alive again. She has hope that this will work! Although we know this is just the beginning her experience at the clinic has been amazing with lots of support and positive encouragement. She did not have faith that chemotherapy would work for her and in order to beat any disease you need to believe that it will work! We are trying to save her life not prolong her life. I know this is hard for most people to grasp and understand because we have been brought up to only hear what doctors have to say and that surgery and medications are the only way but there are plenty of other ways to treat disease if you actually dig and research cancer/disease. It is obviously very hard to sum up in this blog but believe me when I say I have researched a ton and anyone who unfortunately have gone through similar incidents knows exactly what I am saying. I am not asking you to agree or disagree with natural vs conventional all I am asking is for you as my friend to support my moms decision so that she can live whatever she has left to live in happiness and not in pain, the decision she believes is best.

I have outlined how much debt we have incurred over the last 9 months and the cost anticipated for the overall treatment plan:

The numbers are in Polish Zloty. 1 Canadian Dollar is roughly equivalent to 3 Zloty.

1. Private surgeon/oncologist consultations 900 zloty

2. MRI 600 zloty

3. Colonoscopy 450 zloty

4. Centrum Medyczne Sw. Lukasza - consultations 1000zl, blood analysis 650zl, stool sample 430zl, chemo sensitivity test % of chemo success sent to Germany 1560zl, cancel cell blood count sent to Germany 1800 zl, test for Vitamin C tolerance 200zl

5. Vitamin C, B12, Mistletoe, Vitamin D and other supplement transfusions - 4462zl

6. Hypothermia with Curcumin injections 7016zl

7. Supplements and Hemp Oil 1840zl

8. Wheat Grass $1000 plus $200 for transport

9. Gdansk travel back and forth 2 times per week for 6 weeks 2000zl

10. Oncology clinic commute 600zl

Future treatment plan:

11. Cancer cell blood count sent to Germany 1800 zl

12. Test in Greece where they test which natural remedy will work best for type of cancer 5000zl

13. Vitamin infusions 5000 zl

Total cost 35,138zl which is roughly $11,712 plus $1200 wheatgrass.

Our goal is $12,000.

My parents financial situation is not the greatest. I have been helping them out a lot over the last few years. My dad is on disability and my mom was a homemaker with no income. This has been very hard for me especially since I am in Canada and she is in Poland and I am torn because I have to stay here and she can't come back here for now. Thank you so much for reading this and wishing you all great health because without it we really have nothing!!
