Freeing Jenta Eve Morin

Jenta is 19 years old and a strong part of the San Diego and LA QTPOC (queer and trans people of color) communities. He always shows up for his community, whether that means providing support for those of us in financial or housing crises, or showing up at artivism events in which local qtpoc promote their art, music, and performances. He is patient, gentle, funny, and silly—loves anime, cats, kombucha, and memes. His spirit is tenacious, and constantly fights for the people he loves; he is a source of light and joy, and has helped many people in the qtpoc community to grow and heal, with his wisdom that is far beyond his years. Now he needs our help—

On Sunday, August the 11th, a raid of a music space in LA began with 7-8 cop cars and 20-25 officers. As part of an  "investigation” they detained 2 members of our community in handcuffs and 4 of those involved in the space's logistical team. In a peaceful protest, we spoke to the standing officers whose job it was to separate the detainees from ~30 other folks. We asked why they were being detained, if we could speak to them, and why the investigation involved handcuffing and detaining. The officers refused to respond for the most part, except to say that they didn’t know.  (Videos show crowd of community members chanting "why are they being detained", and "no justice, no peace").

After protesting the detention, Jenta Morin and Giselle Lopez were detained and later officially arrested in an incident of excessive force.

We are desperate to get Jenta released from the 77th Regional jail ASAP. He is a trans youth and is being incarcerated unjustly.

Money will go towards his cost of living after being released (since he cannot work at this time), legal fees for court and a public defender, as well as a current standing bail posting of $50,000. Jenta will have been in a cell with other incarcerated folk for 3 nights (from Sunday night to Wednesday), and will see the first hearing at court tomorrow (8/14) to be hopefully released immediately, then will have a court date set for the official charges.

Please help us bring Jenta home quickly and effectively. Even $5 or $1 will support Jenta in his return home.

Additionally, if anyone has any knowledge, articles, and links to research for:
-support for Jenta's court date (anything we might need to know to help his case/ release)
-QTPOC rights in detainment (specifically trans rights)
-Non profit lawyers/ orgs
-Organizer/ activist rights
