Support Ali's Legal Funds #FreeAli

Donation protected
We are a group of dedicated Goldsmiths students, friends, and family of Ali Rashid Nur from London who are banding together to ask for your support and contributions. We are raising  money to cover the legal costs for the gruelling procedure of taking his case to court to stop him from being deported.

Ali is a Somali Bajuni refugee who has lived in the UK since 1998 when he came here to escape the civil war in Somalia. He has a family here in the UK including a 10 month old baby boy as well as two daughters, 15 and 16 years old. He is an active member of his local communities who is well known and loved. Though based in Edgware, London, he has previously come to speak at Goldsmiths in South East London for a society event and was hoping to be involved in the future.

Currently, he is being unlawfully detined by the Home Office, who are trying to deport him to Tanzania - a country he has no connection with. If he is deported to Tanzania, where he has no family or connections, he will be left destitute. Ali is also Bajuni - a persecuted minority - which means his life is at risk.

The hostile environment of the Home Office, and indeed this country, is rearing it head with the Windrush generation scandal and hundreds of cases like Ali's. Ali has been treated awfully by the Home Office, who have previously even tried to deport him to Kenya and Jamaica. However, all hope is not lost! With the help of 3000+ who signed the petition, tweets, phonecalls, and protests within Heathrow, we managed to stop his deportation.

Ali has been so grateful for everyone's support. But Ali is still currently being held at Colnbrook detention centre and could be facing deportation at any time.

We are currently working with a new legal firm on Ali's case. However, every case comes with its costs - if not the solicitor, then from the courts or the Home Office - and unfortunately Ali hardly has any the money at his disposal. (The Home Office has left Ali without permission to work.) With your help again, through your donations, we can secure good legal representation to build a solid case for Ali, so that he is able to stay here in the UK with his family and friends - where he belongs.

Help us to #FreeAli !
